Getting over fear one step at a time

I’m hosting an intimate women’s lifestyle event this month, but weeks before, I was scared to throw it because I feared two things: asking people to come and experiencing an empty room. But as time passed, I regretted waiting so long because it got me nowhere. It’s like the longer I waited due to fear, I prevented potential positive outcomes from happening.

Now that I’m reflecting on it, I honestly think that was selfish of me because I was taking advantage of time. Every time I said that I would reach out to people, I ended up pushing it off for the next day. But in reality, who is to say that tomorrow is promised? There is a reason why they say that this very moment, aka “the present moment,” is a gift, it’s a blessing, it’s a miracle for some though, I can’t speak for all. And being in the position that I am in, which is loved, protected, supported, with a roof over my head, a laptop to type on, a phone to use, a bed to rest in comfortably, and the list goes on and on, there are more than enough reasons for me to embrace fear and lead it rather than let it lead me, don’t you think?

I guess that’s why gratitude is so important and powerful, but when it comes to fear, I think one of the best pieces of advice I’ve heard about facing it is to go through it. In other words, do the things that you are anxious about. Do them while you’re scared. While you’re nervous, while you’re sad even, do it because it’s better to live life doing something while you’re scared than not doing anything at all because doing nothing is still making a decision. A decision where you’re still in the same position you don’t want to be in, feeling lost, stuck, insecure, or uncertain about where your life is heading.

So, to end this blog, take this reminder with you on your journey,…You can’t play a game of chess without making a move. It doesn’t matter where you are; know it may be scary, but at least you did something.
